Reading Group monthly meeting: "Postscript on the Societies of Control" by Gilles Deleuze and "On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs" by David Graeber
Deleuze suggests, with the help of Foucault, that while discipline characterized subjectivity under capitalism prior to WWII, it is now characterized by control. What are the mechanisms of discipline and control? and what does it mean to be controlled without discipline? Further, Graeber articulates the extent to which bullshit jobs have proliferated under capitalism. Might this have anything to do with a paradigm of control? If so, what could we do with this knowledge?
