Player Piano - Kurt Vonnegut
Vonnegut's first novel, published in 1952, tells a story taking place in a dystopian future following WW3 where society is almost totally mechanized, eliminating the need for human laborers. This widespread mechanization in a capitalist society creates conflict between the wealthy upper class and the lower class. Vonnegut explores the dehumanization of the poor in a capitalist society where they, by having their labor replaced by machines, have no use.
